What Are The Chances Of Having Twins 2nd Time Around?

Hi, I am currently 24 weeks pregnant and this is my second pregnancy. My first child was a 7lbs baby boy and I had a very small bump throughout the whole pregnancy. I am bigger now with this child than I was at 9 months with my first pregnancy. I also feel that this baby kicks a lot more than the last and sort of all over the place. I have had two ultrasounds, first when I was 12 weeks pregnant and the second when I was 14 weeks pregnant. I am not due to have another ultrasound until the 22nd April. Both ultrasounds detected one baby, however, I am concerned that I may be carrying twins? There are twins on my fathers side of the family and also on my partners side of the family. Is it possible that I may be carrying twins and they have been overlooked?

Hi
Dr. Purushottam welcomes you to HCM virtual clinic.
I have gone through your query.
I think I have understood your concern, I will try to suggest you the best possible treatment options.
As you have reported to have only one baby on ultrasound, done two times; I would like to assure you that you are not having twins.
Possibly, you are perceiving more fetal movements , which is common in second pregnancy than as felt in first pregnancy.
Although you have strong history of twins on your and your husband's side, please do not be afraid, you are carrying only one baby in the womb.
I hope my answer helps you.
Thanks.
