What Are The Chances For Baby To Be Diagnosed With Down Syndrome?

hi i am 20 weeks now and during my last ultrasound the doctor found thickness on the back of my babys neck.my 1st and 2nd screening tests were normal.i also have hyperthyroidism and i am 34 yrs old and will still be 34 when the baby is born.i had the amniotecisis test done today and i wanted to know how much of a chance does the baby have to be diagnosed with down syndrome?

Hi, thanks for writing..
When an increased thickness in the back of neck is seen, it would be better to get an amniocentasis done.. only 1-2 out of 100 get a positive result for down's syndrome.. But the correct diagnosis is inevitable because of the need of early action as down's syndrome donot have any treatment.. Confirmation whether the baby is affected or not will be seen with amniocentasis report..Hope I have answered your query..Good day..
