What Are The Adverse Effects Of Contrast Used In CT Scan?

I am scheduled for a CT scan for abdomen/pelvic with PO/IV contrast. I have heart valve leakage and hyp. throid. My concern is the contrast they use in this test! The contrast is optiray 350 and most use Ominpaque are there any safe ones with know side effects? I am 73 not sure this is worth the risk! I appreciate your input, is there another test less risky?

1. Contrast material are completely safe drugs and mild reactions like nausea/vomiting, headache, itching can occur whereas serious allergic reactions are rare and if they do occur, the department/team is well equipped to deal/ treat them.

2. since you have a history of heart disease and thyroid problem tell your doctor about the same who will give you specific instructions on how to prepare for your examination.
