What Are Side Effects Of Taking Inderal?

hi, i was given inderal er 60mg q hs today and taken off verapimil 120mg. i am always so leary of starting new drugs. how safe is this drug? i was started on verapimil years ago for htn, headaches, and palpatations. most of these things have decreased greatly. I lost about 30lbs over last 2 years. my bp is usually good unless i have a major scare in my life. my bp has at times been in the 90 systolic. i noticed that it is given for panic attacks and anxiety. occasionally i will wake up in the night with a panic attack. I have no clue as why. it started years ago after having surgery and a hard time breathing. my doctor said it will not affect my heart or blood pressure much. (she does not know about the panic attacks) i just need some reassurance that the side effects are not that common?! thanks.

Inderal (propranolol) is a beta blocker that is a very good and safe drug. As a matter of fact, it has probably been given to you as it has cardioprotective effect and can even help in increasing the lifespan of a person. It can also play a positive role on your panic attacks by reducing the heart rate and thereby preventing palpitations. There can be a number of indications for which a medicine can be given. You need not be bothered by the other reasons a medicine is given.
The main side effect of inderal is reduction of heart rate but that is the way it actually works. There is no reasons to get concerned. It is unlikely to be threatening. Please do not worry. It is a very safe drug.
