Urine Test Showed RBC And Leukocytes, Ultrasound Showed Cortical Cyst, On Medicines For BP, Cholesterol. Cause Of RBC In Urine?

i am a 40 yrold male, my urine test shows ++ 8 /hpf, My ultra sound also show 1.6cm cortical cyst which the doc told me not a concern. I am taking meds for hyprtenstion - coverysl 10mg and Lipitor 20mg since my totla chol is 260 (before 346) my lyeococytes in my urine test show 2/hpf. What might be tha cause of this rbc in my urine? my doc did not ask me to do any thing. For the past 3 months i was under heavy stress due to my anxiety (hypocondriac)

Thanks for the query

your leucocyte in urine is 2/hpf which is within normal limit. Your RBC count is 8/hpf which is high. Now it is very necessary to see the morphology of RBC especially in high RBC count in urine. If RBC morphology is normal it indicates urinary tract infection or lower urinary tract pathology and when RBC morphology is distorted then it indicates the source of RBC is glomerular indicating glomerulonephritis.

So my earnest advice to you will be please do a repeat urinary microscopical examination specially to look for morphology of RBC if not done yet and consult your doctor then.

Also you must have a check on blood pressure and lipid profile.

Dear friend, welcome to HCM!

RBCs in urine can be due to various causes like infection, trauma, stones, inflammation, tumour etc.
8/hpf may not be worrisome.
Did you have fever, pain on urination or in the back/ flanks?
Any difficulty urinating?
Were kidney function tests done of late?

Leucocytes of 2/ hpf are normal and suggest no infection.
Cortical cyst, stress and medicines are not the causes here.
You may not take any action right now and may repeat a routine urine sample well collected mid stream.

You need to lower cholesterol still.
