Unusual Sleeping Patterns, Sleepy Always, Severe Headaches, Fall Sick Easily. Sleep Apnea ?

I most definitly believe that I have Sleep Apnea .I go to bed at 11pm and wake up at around 10am.I will normally stay up until 2pm but then I ll sleep to like 6pm to 8pm.One time I took a 3hour nap and went to get the laundry. But I fell asleep on the stairs on the way up for another hour. When Im in school I fall asleep every day getting more than 8hours of sleep. This has been happening since I was 11.Im now 14.Any time I try to tell my mom she wont listen. But when I was 10 I had black spots on my back. But they went away.So we thought nothing of them. I ve always had severe headaches and I get sick very easily.I just want to know.Should I see a doctor?

Cardiologist 's  Response
Hi there, Thanks for writing in. I am a qualified and certified cardiologist. What you describe is excessive sleepiness. Ask your partner to watch you sleep. Then it can be observed how disturbed your sleep is. Do you get snoring? Do you get spells when there is no breathing? Then are you obese? That is for making the diagnosis of Obstructive Sleep Apnoea. After that consult a doctor so that you can be examined thoroughly and sleep studies if indicated can be performed. If you need ENT consult that can be obtained at this stage. After the diagnosis is established treatment can begin. Good Luck.

With Best Wishes

Hi Simine,
Welcome to healthcare magic!
I wonder that you are quite a kid and you know our website!
I agree that you may have sleep apnea and more so if you are a bit obese for your age and if you do not have enough playing/exercises.
Most Obesity hypo-ventilation and sleep apnea people have snoring and choking in the night sleep so get interrupted sleep which lead to dull mentation and daytime sleepiness.
You should consult your physician, if overweight then cut down on weight and include exercises in daily routines. You are too young for such a morbid disease, please improve your life style to combat it.

I hope this advise would be helpful for you.

Still if you have any queries or doubts, please write me back,
I would be happy to solve them.

Wish you a great health!
