Ultrasound Done. What Does The Findings Suggest?

Hi I have an ultrasound report that says right ovary is 7.4cc and there is a small amount of free fluid adjacent about 14mm in thickness and left ovary is 12cc and contains a cyst of 21mm which appears to have internal echoes possibly endometrioma. I have an appointment for a couple of months time but am just wondering what the 7.4cc and 12cc mean? Also what does the free fluid mean? Thanks

Hi,
thanks for using healthcaremagic.
7.4 cc and 12 cc are the volume of your ovaries. The left ovary is slight enlarged but it is because of the cyst present in the left ovary. Endometrioma is also called as chocolate cyst which causes symptoms like pelvic pain and increased bleeding/pain during menses. Correlation with clinical and biochemical parameters is required. The cyst can also be a hemorrhagic cyst.
Mild free fluid in Pouch of Douglas (POD) is a normal finding in the menstrual age. It does not cause any problems. If it is large then it should be investigated further.

Do go for a checkup with your gyn and with your other lab/clinical info a diagnosis can be made and treated accordingly.

Regards,

Dr. Pankaj Nagori
