Type 2 Diabetes, Back Pain, Abdominal Pain, Constipation, Regular Appetite. Treatment Options?

I am type 2 diabetic. Bowel movements always perfect, every day. 6 days ago started having pain from center of my back under rib cage and around left side. Hurts to lay on left side in bed. Gets better when sitting. Tender to push on under rib cage on right side. Have regular appetite , but no bowel movement in 3 days now. Took some mineral oil yesterday but no results.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

* Can be related to the intestine motility-related issue or possible gravels in the urinary system with secondary constipation.

* Plenty of liquids, bulk-forming laxative as ispaghula husk help great and selected cases may require soap water enema.

* For pain control, I recommend extended release paracetamol tablet every 12 hourly with an antacid to avoid gastric upset.

* Discuss with your consultant regarding the need of ultrasound if the pain persists later on.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
