Trouble Urinating, Dizziness, Vomiting, Profuse Sweating,. Diagnosed As Vertigo. Had Catheter Inserted. What Could It Be?

My 85 year old mom was hospitalized yesterday after getting dizzy, falling, and vomiting, and sweating severely. Her EKG is fine. Diagnosis so far is vertigo. In the ER, she needed to urinate, but couldn't. After several attempts, a catheter was inserted and she was found to have a large amount of urine that needed to be eliminated. The doctor said he would refer her to a urologist, but didn't feel it was related to the vertigo. I have a hard time believing that since all of this occurred within a couple of hours. She's spending her second night in the hospital. What could it be?

Hello,
Thanks for the query to H.C.M. Forum.
In my opinion your mother develop dizziness ( syncope due to any cause) and she fainted.
Due to dizziness , she fell , there was vomiting & sweating.
As I have seen many patients , first develops dizziness , after this they develops sweating, vomiting .
This is a common feature and sequelae of dizziness.
In my opinion she in in semi coma , so unable to pass urine.
So for urine they inserted catheter.
In my opinion , no need to consult a Urologist.
Take treatment of dizziness and doctor will find out the cause of dizziness.
Hope I have provided desired information.
Good luck for your mother.
