Tooth Extraction Done, Root Canal Also Done, Pain After Procedure. Normal Symptoms?

Hello Dr. I got my left wisdom tooth extracted. And got the root canal procedure done to the teath before the extracted tooth. I went for chekup after 3 days and dr. did some procedure (She pearced some needle and tried estimating the depth, she hasnt used anesthesia ) and asked to come after twodays. After this short procedure. I am feeling pain, it doesnt subside insipte of it being close to 8 hours. I am taking . Tab.Zenflox-OZ One tablet two times a day and Tab.Flozen -AA One tablet two times a day. Is that normal to have this pain or should I be taking any pain killer?

Hi
From your history first of all, it seems that, if your dentist had estimated some depth like thing from your tooth, means still your root canal is not completed (She might be estimating the working length of canals, needed for RCT procedures) you should ask her, whtr, she has finished wid root canal or not.
If not, pain may be there, as root canals, still needs to be completely cleared and filled.
If RCT is completed, there are sometimes, called Post Obturation Flare ups (Pain after RCT), which causes some pain after completion of root canals. Such Pain usually goes off in a 2/ 3 days time.

More over you also, have got wisdom teeth removed, so healing of socket is also taking place. All these factors leads to Pain, which will subside after 3/ 4 days course of Medicine which u are taking Now...

Still if pain is unbearable, Take medicine, Tablet KETOROL DT-10 mg, twice a day...

Dentist Dr. Bibhu Dutt Nanda's  Response
hello and welcome to HCM forum,
according to the dental history provided by you i would like to inform you that if you are experiencing pain after 3 days of extraction, it states that you have developed a "dry socket", for which your dentist has prescribed you anti-inflammatory and painkillers,
do not worry, it is okay to have pain killers till the time your dentist has prescribed you ,
it is a very common condition following extraction, just make sure to use an antibacterial betadine mouth wash(2 times/day) along with the medicines prescribed by your dentist.
i advise you to visit your dentist after 3 days for a follow up.
i wish you good health,
take care.
