Took Bactrim For Prostate Infection. Pain And Discomfort In The Rectum. Tylenol Suggested. Worried About The Side Effects

I have prostate infection and I have taken Bactrim in the past with great success. Doesn't seem to be helping now, no real improvements after a few days. Pain is in the straddle and some discomfort in the rectum. I'm taking Bactrim now and having to take Tylenol for the pain and discomfort. My doctor gave me rx for Cipro, but I'm very concerned about the side effects. Bactrim probably has the same side affects but I have no reactions at all to taking this medication. What are the real chances of side affects with Cipro with my experience with Bactrim? Bottom line, if Bactrim isn't working I'll have to take my chances anyway with Cipro lol

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and welcome to HCM.

Thank you for your query.

With time, due to overuse or due to improper use of antibiotics, individuals can develop a resistance. Which is why Bactrim is now ineffective in your case.

All medications have side effects, and different individuals respond in different ways. Which is why you will have to initiate the ciprofloxacin to learn about the response you can have to it, and whether or not it can result in side effects. Cipro is a fairly safe drug, most patients who experience side effects, experience only the most mild side effects. Do not worry, please go ahead with this.

I hope I have succeeded in providing the information you were looking for. Please feel free to write back to me for any further clarifications at: http://doctor.healthcaremagic.com/doctors/dr-shoaib-khan/64581I would gladly help you.

Best wishes.
