Tinnitus For Several Years, Irritation With Night Mares And Flash Backs. Medication?
Hello,
I have a similar question I have had tinnitus for more than 5 years which was caused by an explosion of fireworks at about three meters. My teenage son who is 17 flew into a rage and screamed at me at the top of his voice from a distance of about two meters away for a about 15-30 seconds. I did not retaliate. This caused immediate irritation to me with nightmares and flashbacks occurring in the following days. I am now afraid he or someone else equally as stupid could do it again.
My question to a professional is could this have caused hearing loss and/or exacerbated my tinnitus? I have now started taking ginkgo biloba. Could the irritation I have experienced be temporary at all?
Is there any other medication that might be suitable at all?
On a side note the boy has become increasingly abusive in the last twelve months.

Hi there, thanks for asking. The issues you mentioned could be categorized in post traumatic stress disorder. It is a situation that the person is afraid of repetition and avoids the situations that may cause it again. Some anticonvulsants are very useful even in low dose for treating the similar conditions. I have seen that some similar cases have been treated with Lamictal with one of the colleagues with good result. Best wishes.
