I had an ultrasound done and my doctor says that I have a thick lining (5.3 cm). I am stopped my HRT last May and had two episodes where I spotted briefly and I think it might be from stopping the HRT. I have had no spotting since July. My Dr. wanted an ultrasound right away. The report says there is indistinctness of the myometrial endometrial junction. Given this indistinctness, possibility of endometrial carcinomas is difficult to exclude. At first she wanted to do a biopsy and now a D&C, which she claims is not different. I want a second opinion because she is very aggressive and slightly dramatic about the whole thing. It is only one way and nothing else. What would you suggest?
Hello Thanks for your query. Indistinctness of the myometrial endometrial junction generally points towards adenomyosis, that is, thickening of the wall of uterus. Post menopause, a lining of the uterus thicker than 5.3 requires evaluation. The risk of carcinoma is quite low , however going by recommendations, it is better to have a biopsy of the endometrium to rule out cancer or other pathologies. Hence, a D and C ( biopsy ) should be the next logical step. Take care.
