Teenager. Diarrhea With Bright Red Blood, Cramps In Lower Intestine, Vomiting. Any Ideas?

My 17 year old healthy and active son has had diarrhea with blood for the last 3 days. The last 18 hours it has just been blood coming out, along with horrible lower intestinal cramping. In the last 12 hours also has started vomiting. He hasn't been able to eat anything so the broth I made him along with the Gatorade the Dr. advised is whats coming up. Yes I did take him to his pediatrician yesterday where he left a stool sample for the lab to test, but it takes 3-4 days for results. FYI: The blood the first 24 hours was a dark red color but now has morphed into a bright red. He's going every 1/2 hour to an hour. The saddest part is he's most upset that he can't play in his soccer game tonight. Any ideas what this is?

Hello,

Bloody loose stool with abdominal cramp is dysentery. It is mostly due to bacterial infection of the GIT. Stool culture result will reveal the causative organism. He may need a course of antibiotics to deal with the infection.
