Taking Zyrtec. Am Depressed And Excessively Tired. Tried All Antidepressants. Not Working. Best Prescription Based Antihistamine?

I have been taking zyrtec for the past 7 years and have come to find out it may be the cause of my depression and excessive tiredness that I have been experiencing the past 7 years. I have had to change antidepressants multiple times because they seem to work then stop. I have tried Allegra and Singulair to see if that would help any but it gave me terrible headaches and mood swings. I have to take an antihistamine because I am allergic to dogs. I plan to try Claritin but if that doesn't work, what do you think the best prescription based antihistamine?

Hi, thanks for using healthcare magic

Zyrtec can cause drowsiness, dizziness and rarely nervousness in some persons.

The older anti histamines are better in terms of effectiveness in relieving allergies but are associated with a greater likelihood of side effects such as drowsiness.

The newer anti histamines such as zyrtec (cetirizine), allegra (fexofenadine) and claritine (loratidine) , desloratidine are suppose to be associated with significantly less drowsiness.
You can try the loratidine (claritine), if this is not effect then you may want to consider the desloratidine since you have used the other options

I hope this helps
