Taking Meclizine For Occasional Dizzy/vertigo Spells. Is There A Long Term Concern For Taking This Med?

I m Danny Teigen (age 67) and have taken Meclizine for my occasional dizzy/vertigo spells. I only take as needed. The instructions list a dosage of 3 - 25mg chewables per day. Is there a long term concern for taking this med. ? I have Menieres disease for the last 2.5 years.

Hi. Welcome to HCM. Meclizine is an antihistamine that is used to prevent or treat nausea, vomiting, and dizziness caused by motion sickness. It may also be used to reduce lightheadedness, dizziness, and loss of balance (vertigo) caused by diseases that affect the inner ear. Probably your doctor has assessed your health status before putting this drug. Tell your doctor immediately if any of these unlikely but serious side effects occur vision changes, decreased/painful urination, seizures. Long term use usually will not cause any serious adverse effects, but if u experience any of these like rash, itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat), severe dizziness, trouble breathing please report to your doctor immediately. Wish u good health..
