Taking Ceftaroline For MRSA. Drug Was Left Out For 5 Hours. Can The Drug Be Still Administered?

My 93 year old father was given ceftaroline for his mrsa infection. On his third dosage the nurse left it out for five hours. We requested another bag of ceftaroline she brought another. She promised us she would throw this other bag out. The next morning we found the same old bag being given to my father. We had marked the original bag? Should we be concerned?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
hello dear
thanks for your query at HCM
the constituted solution in the infusion bag should be used within 6 hours when stored at room temperature or within 24 hours when stored under refrigeration at 2 to 8º C (36 to 46º F).
vials should be stored refrigerated at 2 to 8° C (36 to 46° F). Unrefrigerated, unreconstituted can be stored at temperatures not exceeding 25°C (77°F) for no more than 7 days.
if unreconstituted is given it is ok
if reconstituted bag was given it is ineffective according to above norms.
next time be careful while giving this , make sure it is prepared properly and given in time
regards

Welcome to Healthcare-Magic
Greetings of the day
As the drug has already been given and if your father is not having any othr complaints like pain in arm of Injection, rash, itching then there is no cause of concern. Just gently remind the Staff Nurse not to repeat it again.
Take Care
