Taking Buproprion. Have Post Traumatic Stress Disorder And Anger Issues. Higher Dose Required?

Hi!
I am on the Buproprion xl 150 mg. I take it once in the morning. I still seem to have some anger issues once in awhile..but not as bad as before ever taking the medication by far! I diagnosted with post traumatic stress disorder...due to being raped by 4 men, almost being strangled to death by a man, and as a child my father being abusive....he was a Vietnam vet and probably could have benefited from this medication himself. My question is...should I be on a higher dose? What do you suggest?

Hello,

Thanks for posting on HcM,

Well your problem will require more intense psychotherapy order than medications dosage. You will need a psychiatrist to schedule some sessions so you can go through a mental therapy that can help you out.
Bupropion can be taken up to a dosage of maximum of 450 mg daily divided into two but that will have to be done with supervision of your doctor.
Post traumatic stress disorder requires proper psychological therapy, so you will have to book an appointment with a psychiatrist.

hope this helps

Psychiatrist Dr. Dr.Nehal's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for using healthcare magic.

I have gone through your available history.

Bupropion is good medicine for depression with usual dose range is 150-300mg per day. As you are on 150mg per day, dose may need to be increased till 300mg.

You should regularly consult your psychiatrist for detailed evaluation.

Doctor may advise you to try some other drugs like ox carbamezapine or paroxetine or sertraline for better management of symptoms if bupropion is not working.

Psychotherapy, counselling and relaxation exercise like breathing exercise , yoga, meditation may be off good help to you.

I hope you can come out of it soon.

Thanks.
