Taken Amoxicillin For Tooth Infection. Have Painful Bump In Labia Majora. How Long Will It Take To Go Away?

Hello Doctors. I had a tooth infection in which I went to the dentist and was given Amoxicillin 500mg to be taken orally tid tat. About 4-5 days into taking the antibiotics, I began having symptoms of what felt like a yeast infection (itching, burning, irritation, redness); I only get yeast infections when I take antibiotics. However, this time around, I have a pea sized, painful bump on the edge of my labia majora on the left side. My questions are what can this be; how long will it take to go away; and is there anything more I need to do outside of the OTC terconazole taken that I can take to assist with the pain and to make it go away?

Hello,
Thanks for the query to H.C.M. Forum.
As you know very well this is due to sensitivity reaction due to Amoxycillin.
May be vasculitis, maculopapular rash , exfoliative dermatitis ,as all these are adverse reaction of amoxycillin.
Either get antihistamine + steroid for 4-5 days or wait to resolve itself within 10-15 days.
You can use locally steroid cream .
Good luck.

Thanks for posting your query. From the question, I understand you are having a condition called folliculitis or furuncle which simply means a bacterial infection of the sweat gland in the labia. The antibiotic you have taken should be able to take care of it. If the swelling doesn't subside , meet your doctor to see if a change in antibiotic is needed. It doesn't sound like a yeast infection, so antifungals will not be needed. Hot fomentation helps to localise the pus , you may need to let out the pus if there is a collection.Your doctor will help you with this.
Hope this helps, Take care!
