Swelling In Ankles And Legs Gradually During The Day. No Help From Furosemide And Potassium. Recommended Change Of Medicine Or Dosage?

I have been taking furosemide for a year or more and my ankles and legs are still swelling. When I get up in the morning my feet, legs, ankles and legs are very small or the right size. When I am up on them for a couple of hours they get very swollen and by night time they are abnormal looking. It seems this medication is not working....or should it be doubled. I now take 40 mg of furosmide and 20 grams of potassium. What seems to be the trouble. Thanks.

Hello.
Thanks for writing to us.
The swelling that appears only during the day time is likely to be posture dependent. Instead of increasing the dose, you need to restrict your salt intake and keep your feet elevated on two pillows.
I hope this information has been both informative and helpful for you.
