I have very severe DPN living in Las Vegas, NV. After trials, I finally end up with NovoLog/Lantus insulin 20 units 3X per day and oxycodone 30mg maximum release 270 count per month. This keeps my sugar and neuropathy under control. Although clinically well tolerated, my doctor reduces the oxycodone using Lyrica to potentiate its pain relief effects. I am still able to control my neuropathy now with 90 count less, down to 180 count per month using 300mg, 3X per day of Lyrica. I can work, go to school, teach science or math all while feeling quite normal thanks to tolerance. Continues for about two years then change jobs, hired in Las Cruces, NM, a quick move. Doctors won’t give 180 count in Las Cruces. Don’t respect past doctor’s practice. Will only prescribe 120 count per month. Puts me right on edge trying to control neuropathy. Failed last month. Had to go to ER for pain meds. What to do? Don’t know. Lost job. I guess I’m moving back to Las Vegas. DPN is bad news not because it can’t be treated, but because it won’t be treated. Any suggestions?
