Suggested Removal Of Hyperactive Thyroid. History Of Using Methimzole. Effects If Left Untreated?
I am told I need my thyroid removed it is hyperactive. They cannot determine if it is cancer because my gland will not give them enough cells. I have hot and cold cells. I used methimizole and have to come off it I was on it about three years way too long. I had 2 biopsy's at two different hospitals. I don't want it out what are the changes if I leave it in without pills or surgery.
Left untreated, you shall be prone to continue developing complications from hyperthyroidism. these could range from systemic defects like heart disease, palpitations, heart failure, joint disease and gastrointestibal tract abnormalities. The most feared of these complications is a manifestation of thyrotxicosis, mainly in the heart that could easily lead to thyroid related heart failure.
Hyperactive thyroid could also be an indication of may be a tumour, which if removed would drastically reduce and significantly improve quality of life. This procedure is generally simple and post surgical management is not difficult and easy to manage.
I strongly recommend you meet your to discuss and take action with respect to the surgical option.
Thanks and best regards, Bain LE, MD.
