Suggest Ways To Manage Pain In Knee After A Fracture

Hello, 4 weeks ago I was riding BMX & had a bad fall on my left knee. I scheduled a doctors appt the following morning because I could not sleep due to the knee pain. X-rays showed i suffered a subtle transverse fracture of the patella non-displaced. The doctor then sent me home with krutches & a knee immobilizer. Last week I had X-rays taken again &I the radiologists stated there was no fracture present. So after 4 weeks the swelling above my knee is still an issue & I can not bend my knee more then 90 degrees without extreme pain. What do you suggest I do to speed healing?

Hi,

The axis of fracture is not predicted because it needs your report. Stable fracture is the one in which the fracture ends are clean and the fracture bone pieces are not displaced. Un-displaced fractures can be managed by cast or splint that prevents the knee mobilization and promotes healing.

Patella or knee cap connects thigh bone to the leg bone. Thigh muscles attached to the patella and the tendon connects the patella to the leg bone. Since, the thigh bones are strong one, it may pull the fractured piece and displace the fracture ends. In displaced fractures, surgical intervention is needed.

Since, the fracture healing needs immobilization for six to eight weeks, physiotherapy is advised for proper maintenance of the thigh muscles. Weight bearing exercises are also needed for mobilization after recovered from the healing process. Discuss with your orthopedician for further opinion.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
