Suggest Ways To Lose Weight While On Synthroid

Hello - a year ago I have a total thyroidectomy (no RAI afterwards) and was immediately put on synthroid. I am currently at 175mg. My labs TSH, FT3, FT4 are indicating (according to my endo) that I am hyperthyroid so he wants to decrease my dose. HOWEVER, I have a lot of hypo-symptoms (including weight gain that I cannot take off). I ve tried Atkins-type diets. I can t lose. I can t even get into ketosis. I m currently jogging 4 days a week and only eat lean protein, vegs and fruit. I m celiac so I avoid starches, except for the odd small potato or rice (which I haven t been eating as I was following Atkins) I am only 38. Do you have any dietary recommendations for someone in this position trying to lose weight? FYI, before my papillary cancer was caught, I used to be 145 pounds,at 5 6 . Now I m 170 lbs and it refuses to budge. Thanks.

Hi, dear
I have gone through your question. I can understand your concern.

You have history of total thyroidectomy due to papillary carcinoma.

Now you have to adjust with exogenous hormone only. Levothyroxin is the best medicine for it. You need dosage adjustment so that you can control your TSH and weight gain both.
Consult your doctor and adjust the dosage accordingly. As such diet have not much role in weight gain due to thyroid condition.

Hope I have answered your question.
