Suggest Treatments For Acute Hearing And Nervousness With Crackling Sound In Head

My wife is 79 (I am 78). She has good , acute hearing normally, and dislikes loud noises. She has been nervous today because our smoke alarms started a noise. The smoke alarms are noew sorted but she now syas she has a crackling sound inher head (rear) which first started 2-3 weeks ago and is intermittent. She is plainly worried but to see a doctor at week-ends is difficult. Advise please.

I have shown the query to my wife. She thinks the smoke alarms are not relevant. She is more concerned with the crackling sound ( like loud tinfoil or bones breaking)

ENT Specialist 's  Response
hello, thanks for ur query, there r two things which is giving crackling sounds in her ear(tinnitus). noise induced hearing loss(smoke alarms,79yrs-any person more than 50yrs are morone to nerve deafness.(age onset deafness). in my opinion u need to be evaluated for her hearing by audiometry tests. she may require heaing aids if her tinnitius associated with hearing loss.medication will not have any help in nerve deafness. all d best.take care.
