I have had 3 consecutive vaginal yeast infections in the past 3-4 months. I never went to a doctor to check it out and treated myself with monistat. I am now on the third and treating it again with over the counter medication because I have a few more days of college volleyball left. I am going to see the doctor once my season ends, but I was wondering if this could be something more serious than a yeast infection. It has all the symptoms and the monistat works to get rid of it. It does come back after about a month however. I am sexually active, but only with one partner. Is there a chance this could be an STI?
Hello, Thanks for sharing your health concern with us. I have gone through your query and would like to offer some suggestions. Firstly, vaginal infections tend to recur and need prolonged treatment. Secondly, as you are having recurrent infection, it is likely that you have a resistant infection, the treatment is incomplete or your sexual partner is responsible. Please get a vaginal swab for culture tests and get your partner also checked. Get blood sugar levels done. Avoid tampons, tight fitting undergarments and strong vaginal douches. Hope this helps.
