Hello, and I hope I can help you today.

Breakthrough bleeding and spotting (brown discharge is just very light bleeding mixed with your regular discharge) is very common side effects of the Implanon, but it usually stops by 6 months after getting the rod placed.
I know it may seem alarming, but the spotting is not dangerous and you can safely have intercourse even if you are bleeding to some extent.

If you could wait a few more months, your side effects will likely resolve by then and you may not need to switch back to birth control pills.

I hope I was able to adequately able to answer your question today and that this information was helpful.

Best wishes,

Dr. Brown
