Suggest Treatment For Uterine Prolapse, Cystocele And Rectocele

I have had bowel problems for years, mostly diarrhea and now I have uterine prolapse, cystocele and rectocele. Doc says surgery is needed to support vaginal walls. With so much in news about mesh claims I m worried about using that to hold my vaginal walls and rectal walls up. What if anything, do they use for surgical relief after a hysterectomy?

Hi,

Normally, some conservative methods like pelvic muscle exercises known as Kegel's exercises, use of pessaries may be tried for prolapse of pelvic organs. However, in your case, as you are also having rectocele and cystocele also. Therefore, most likely, surgery seems the best option for you, including the relief of agonizing digestive and urinary symptoms.

Each case of prolapse of pelvic organs may need a specific procedure depending on the stage of the prolapse. It may include repair, strengthening the supporting structures as well as in some cases may be hysterectomy. However, you may discuss about your individual planned procedure with your doctor. Usually, after the surgical procedure, doctor advises you some exercises etc. post-operatively for maintaining the strength of pelvic muscles and supporting structures.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
