Hello,

The commonest cause of pain in the tongue is infection of the tongue (due to dry mouth, glossitis or oral thrush). Other medical conditions with similar symptoms are liver problems, deficiency of vitamin B2, B12, folic acid, zinc or iron deficiency anemia. The tongue may get sore and painful. You are suggested to give her liquid or semi solid home made food that is balanced. Give her multivitamins and vitamin E supplements.

Give her liver tonics. Keep her well hydrated. Get her clinically examined by a dentist or a GP to rule out any oral disease for which she may need anti fungals or antibiotics. She may have to get swab or sputum tests and CBC, HB%, liver function tests, etc done. She should rinse her mouth with warm salt water 3-4 times a day and also gargle her throat. She should take care of her hygiene.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
