Suggest Treatment For Tinnitus While Having Flu

My right ear had started clicking when I yawn/burp. Previously there was a squelching when I rested the said ear on a pillow my shoulder but this seems to have stopped. I do getting clicking in the ear (mainly when I swallow) when I have congestion due to colds/flu type viruses and have had t have this ear syringed twice previously.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

I think you've been a bit congested. Congestion will cause clogged Eustachian tube which is giving this clicking sound in your ears.

We do recommend in these cases to:
- take plenty of fluids
- apply nasal decongestant to open airways
- we do encourage yawning or chewing gums continuously this will ease the symptoms
- other exercises that might help include: close your mouth, hold your nose with a hand, and gently blow as you are blowing with nose. This has worked for my patients.
- antihistamines taken orally can also help
- apply vapor rub at night on the chest and on the back to open airways

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Albana Sejdini, General & Family Physician
