Suggest Treatment For Hearing Loss And Tinnitus

I have a post-cold/flu sticky substance in my middle ear that s causing tinnitus and hearing loss. It s too thick to drain. I hear a crackling sound when I try to pop my ears. This is the second time after several years and the tinnitus is now persistent. Any way to dissolve this gunk?

Hi, Thanks for the query. You seems to be having effusion of middle ear. The treatment is use of mucolytic like ambroxal along with nasal decongestants like xylometazoline and may be antibiotics if some inflammatory element is there like pain or redness of tympanic membrane. If it does not respond, an ENT can do myringotomy with grommet insertion. A pure tone audiometry will give conductive hearing loss and an impedance audiometry will show reduced compliance, B type curve. So, please see an ENT and the requisite intervention can be done.
