Suggest Treatment For Throbbing Pain In Left Ear

I m 22, i just worked out doing high intensity interval training that required jumping. And all of a sudden, whenever I would jump and for awhile after, I would get this throbbing pain about my left ear. I ve been working out like this for 3 months and never had this happen before. Why did this happen?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Noted your specific history of developing and increase in pain in left ear on jumping during workouts. This is most of the times development of fluid inside the tympanic membrane that is ear drum. This pressure temporarily increases on any activity that increases pressure through Eustachian tube.

Hence I wuld advise you the following in such a situation:
* Stop the jumping and avoid any activity that increases the intra-tympanic pressure
* Consult an ENT Surgeon for ENT Endoscopy, clinical evaluation so that an appropriate diagnosis be made, investigated as required and treated on prescription based medications

Till then you can do the following:
* Do not blow the nose.
* Use nasal decongestants.
* Take an anti-inflammatory medication like Ibuprofen if it suits you.

I hope this answer helps you. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Dr. T. Chandrakant
