Suggest Treatment For Thickened Endometrium And Fatty Liver
I AM 46 YEARS OLD WITH 12 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER. I HAD ECTOPIC PREG IN 2009.ALWAYS HAD NORMAL PERIODS. HOWEVER, FOR PAST 7 WEEKS NOW I HAD NO PERIODS AND FOR PAST 2/3 WEEKS HAVING VERY LIGHT REDDISH/BROWNISH DISCHARGE. HAD SONO DONE WHICH REPORTED ENDOMETRIUM THICKNESS OF 14.8 MM AND ALSO INDICATED A FATTY LIVER. GYNO IS SUUGESTING D& C AND ENDOMETRIAL BIOPSY. WHAT SHOULD I DO ?

How are you doing ? I understand your concern
A age of 46 yrs , the peri-menopausal age , any endometrial thickness > 12 mm need evaluation, after menopause any thickness >9 mm needs evaluation.
From your history am sure the result will be normal. After age of 40 yrs, women have anovulatory cycles, I mean periods where eggs are not extruded from ovary. So the inner thickness of uterus ( endometrium ) keeps increasing till it falls out on it's own. As your uterus has no other problems like fibroids or polyps or adenomysis, don't worry.
After age of 35yrs it is advisable to have yearly PAP smear to rule out any abnormal cells in cervix. So you can have that too in same sitting. To be on a safer side such screening is good.
If you are worried about going into theater for the procedure, you can also ask for "PIPELLE endometrial sampling".
This can be done in out patient department, with no anesthesia, no pain & no admission to hospital , also at low cost, just( approx Rs.300-500)
results are at par with D&C
