Suggest Treatment For Swelling On Forehead Caused By An Injury

Hello, My daughter hit her head running into a wall 48 hours ago. She has a significant lump on her forehead which has reduced in size and now has bruising across her forehead and swelling inbetween her eyes. She has no symptoms and only pain when we touch the bruise. Should I take her to hospital?

Hello!

Welcome and thank you for asking on HCM!

I understand your concern and would explain that her symptoms seem to be related to the soft tissues inflammation (muscles, fat tissue) and subcunateous hematoma related to the trauma.

I recommend total rest at bed for a week and avoid straining physical activity. You should avoid a possible repeated trauma during this period.
Painkillers like acetaminophen or ibuprofen can help reduce the pain.

If her headache doesn't improve in the next days, or even worsen (nausea, vomiting, dizziness, confusion), I recommend bringing her to the ER for a brain CT scan to exclude a possible intracranial hemorrhage.

Hope to have been helpful!
Best wishes,
Dr. Aida
