Hello, my doctor gave me a prescription for Methylprednisolone 4 mg dospak 21 s. Like prescribed, I took 6 of the pills yesterday, and 2 of the 5 that I was suppose to take today. I was getting ready to take my third pill at suppertime when I noticed my face was quite red. I look like I have a sunburn. I called the doctor and she said to quit taking it. But after I talked to her, I ve been reading that it shouldn t be abruptly discontinued. Is it okay to quit abruptly since I only took it for a day and a half or should I taper it down over the next few days more than the original prescription? Might I experience any side-effects?
I understand your concern for sunburn. It appears from your query that you have got quite severe type of sunburn. In your case there is over exposure of sun light and therefore the related problem which you are feeling. In majority of the patients it is not troublesome and self resolving condition which most of the times gets better by itself.
Your doctor has given you the best treatment for the same and you should continue the same. In my patients with your kind of condition I suggest the same treatment and suggest them to apply a mild steroid lotion such as desonide for few days of period.
Use a broad spectrum sunscreen regularly to reduce the further tendency and take the treatment as suggested by your doctor.
All the best.
