If he is acting normally and no nauseous or vomiting and did not lose consciousness then he will likely does not have an emergent head injury. The knot is likely soft tissue injury like a bruise and can sometimes contain fund and or blood from the injury. You can ice the area which will help and over the next several days it will get smaller but tomorrow it may appear purplish or more bruised. Also if he may have a concussion so if he come nauseous, vomits, complains of worsening headache or become confused or altered you should take him into the emergency department. Thank you.
