Suggest Treatment For Shortness Of Breath During Pregnancy

Hi, I am 34 weeks pregnant and didnt get any sleep last night because I couldnt breathe. I tried everything. I called the doctors office and they said go to the ER. So I went and they didnt do much. They just checked the baby's HR and my oxygen level and let me go. I am now having a hard time breathing again. What should I do?

OBGYN 's  Response
At 34 weeks, difficulty of breathing could be because of:
1. Anaemia - Low haemoglobin count
2. Heart problem
3. Increased fluid around the baby in the uterus making the uterus much larger.
4. Mental stress
Though there are few more causes, your doctor has not mentioned any of them, so lets not consider them.
Please get your blood examined to rule out anaemia. If it is there, you have to take iron medicine with high protein.
Please take a cardiological opinion and cardiogram done if needed.
Your obstetrician can examine you clinically to find out whether the fluid in the uterus is too much and can plan the treatment accordingly. If needed, you may be asked to undergo ultrasonography also.
Are you under any stress? If so, please try to cope with it successfully. You may seek the help of a counsellor if needed.
I hope, you got sufficient guidance. If any further query, you may ask me directly or on premier questions.
