Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi. My wisdom teeth are severely impacted on my left side and causing me crazy pain. I have already seen the dentist, but am unable to see an oral surgeon for another 2 weeks. I was wondering if there was something I could do to help the pain. Have tried many over the counter meds for pain and am currently taking penicillin. I can't open my mouth to eat and can barely talk.
As per your query severe wisdom tooth pain after tooth extraction is because of infection in that area. It could be due to formation of drysocket and use of massive instrumentation. Do warm saline rinses, antibacterial mouthwash, OTC pain killers will provide relief.
Ice chips around that area can be applied to relieve pain as that causes nervenumbness. Pain could be because of this as it builds pressure in that area. In that case subgingival cleaning/ scaling or curettage is treatment option. You should go to dentist. Till then take all the preventive measures like saline rinses.
Hope your concern has been resolved.
Best Wishes, Dr. Harry Maheshwari
