Hi, I have severe strep throat! I ve been on amoxicillin for over 48 hours and still getting worse. They gave me two shots of another antibiotic and pain medicine 7 hours ago. I still can barely swallow. IT IS BEYOND PAINFUL! I also have extremely thick foamy spit. Is this ok?
Thanks for your query, i have gone through your query. For the severe streptococcal throat infection, you can take a course of antibiotics preferably a combination of amoxycillin and metronidazole(if you are not allergic). You can take analgesic like diclofenac for the pain. Do saline gargling. Consult a ENT surgeon and get it evaluated. I hope i have answered your query. Take care.
Hi. Thanks for your query. The failure of the antibiotic and the presence of the thick foamy sputum with inability of swallowing is suggestive of a condition called Peritonsillitis.
I would advise you to see an ENT Consultant ASAP, as you may need a surgery to drain the infection if the medical management fails to contain the infection.
