Suggest Treatment For Severe Rashes All Over The Body

Hi, I came in contact with brown tailed caterpillars and have severe rash all over my body. Have had for 4 days and each day more of these itchy spots are appearing. I went to Urgent Care on Monday and was confirmed that the rash I have is from the caterpillars and was told to put on 3 to 4 times a day caladryl and to take Zyrtec or Benadryl daily. They did not want to give me a steroid shot as I have had cancer twice. Is there anything else I can do. I cannot work right now and I am so itching, look a mess and the medicine makes me sleepy.

Hi..
Thanks for the query..

Yes, it is an allergic reaction to caterpillar bites leading to itchy rashes all over the body..

You should continue to take benadryl but in case if the symptoms are not getting better then the dose of the anti allergics needs to be tit-rated..

You can apply Steroid ointment over the rashes to reduce itching and redness..
Do cool compresses to reduce inflammation and itching..
You can continue to apply Calamine lotion to soothe the skin..

If still does not improve consult an Emergency room and get evaluated and if the symptoms worsen then immunosuppressant can be given under proper supervision..

Hope this helps..

Regards..
