Suggest Treatment For Severe Headache

Hello!! I am a 31yo female mother of three, I usually never have any headaches, all VS are within the norm. Just over the past 3 days I started having small dull headache behind my rt eye, on and off. My oldest child noticed what seemed to be a small busted blood vessel (just a couple of smaller darkened lines) above the pupil of my rt eye 2 days ago. All was well i figured so we continued on, I got another headache a little bit ago and so I looked at my eye again and it is now solid blood almost a half dime size of on the white of my eye above the pupil in the same place it was before...again the dull h/a is present, vision isn t affected...any ideas are appreciated. Thanks!

Hello!

Welcome and thank you for asking on HCM!

Regarding your concern, I would explain that your symptoms could be related to different causes:

- elevated eye pressure (or glaucoma), although less probable as you have not blurring vision
- high blood pressure. Have you measured your blood pressure lately?
- a carotid-cavernous fistula, behind this eye.

For this reason, I would recommend consulting with your attending physician and performing a careful physical exam and some tests:

- some blood lab tests (complete blood count, PCR, sedimentation rate, thyroid hormone levels, blood electrolytes, kidney and liver function tests).
- consult with an ophthalmologist and measure the eye pressure.
- a brain MRI may be needed, especially if you have a normal blood pressure but pulsations behind this eye.

It is also necessary controlling your blood pressure values frequently during the day and refer those values to your attending physician.

You should discuss with your doctorn on the above issues.

Kind regards,

Dr. Aida
