Suggest Treatment For Severe Diarrhea, Numbness In The Fingers And Intermittent Stomach Pain While On Flagyl And Ciproxin

First my husband got severe diarrhea. He took Flagyl fo 3 days 2wice a day... He stopped so later symptoms came again he was advised Ciproxin with Flagyl. With the first dose he had numbness in his fingers. So he stopped. He is taking Flagyl today is the 5th day but he has intermittent stomach pain and motions are loose but not frequent. What is your advise?

Hi,

It all depends on the instigating microorganism causing the diarrhea. Typically, Ciproxin would suffice. The stomach pain would likely persist regardless of Flagyl. If he has no fever or blood in his stools (and can take sufficient amounts of liquids), there is no need for antibiotics.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Anders Mark Christensen, General Surgeon
