Psychiatrist 's  Response
If your father has not had similar episodes in the past, in my opinion, I would like to first check whether he has any medical condition such as hypothyroidism or nutritional deficiency that is the cause of his symptoms. I would also like to rule out dementia (impairment in recent memory and other cognitive functions) as such symptoms are often seen in the beginning of dementia.
You have said that he is undergoing psychological treatment. If he is seeing a clinical psychologist (who is not a medical doctor and doesn't prescribe medicines), I would advise you to consult a psychiatrist (a medical doctor with an MD in psychiatry).
Hope this answer helps you.
