General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Severe infection of the throat may require antibiotics along with supportive care like mouth gargling. Amoxycillin-Clavulanic acid can be taken thrice a day for 3 to 5 days to reduce infection. Any history of fever should be ruled out. Persisting symptoms may require throat swabs to rule out any severe infections.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Saranya Ramadoss, General & Family Physician
