Suggest Treatment For Pain And Swelling In A Broken Toe Nail

Hey, So yesterday, I stumped my big toe while moving a rug and now the bottom of my nail bed in the left corner, the cuticle is swollen and bruised. Ir's like I shoved the nail into the cuticle and now it is swolen and raised up and bruised. Its numb in some areas and really painful on the outside of my toe. Do I need to go see a doctor or just wait a few more days>

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concern..

As per your complain it seems that there has been inury to the soft tissues of the nail bed and theer might be some detachment of the nail bed from nail plate and due to it there is swelling and bruising is due to injury to blood vessels leading to spillage of blood into soft tissues leading to bruising as well as there can also be hematoma formation..
You can do cool compresses over the area..
Take anti inflammatory painkiller like Ibuprofen..
You can also apply a combination of steroid and antibiotic ointment over the area..
In case if pain and swelling exaggearates you can consult a General Surgeon and get evaluated and he can look for nail plate detachment as well as if some portion of nail has detached from nail bed he can remove it under local anaesthesia and do an antiseptic dressing and bandage it followed by antibiotics and painkillers..
You should also avoid further injury to the toe as it can commonly get bumped to prevent further injury..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
