Suggest Treatment For Pain And Sprained My Ankle

Hi. I sprained my ankle 3 days ago. The first day, there was swelling, pain, and I couldn t move my toes very well. The second day was a significant improvement. The swelling went down, it didn t really hurt, and I could move my toes almost normally. Today is the third day, and I feel like it s gone backwards. The swelling is back, and I can barely move my toes again, but there isn t any pain really. When I curl my toes downward, there s a significant throbbing under them until I let go, which doesn t happen in the other foot. I m just wondering if I should be seeking medical attention, or if this will go away on its own. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Orthopaedic Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

The pain and swelling after a sprain can be due to torn ligaments or a bone injury. You need to get an MRI scan done to detect the extent of the injury. Avoid weight bearing on the foot and keep it elevated on two pillows for relief.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Praveen Tayal, Orthopaedic Surgeon
