Hi i was dianosed with an over active uterus. Last year my period came every 4 mos. Then in Feb 2016 i took a home preg (3) they came up pos. In Aug 2016 i had a period that lasted into Sept 2016 (aprox 4wks) it got so bad i thought i was hemeraging i was dropping massive blood clots. I went to the ER & the gyn said the next day in his office he would do an in office DNC. Reason was im on warfarin & he didnt want to put me under in the OR. So we did that & i passed out. He then said the only option for me was to put the miraina in (im allergic to the shot). My question is what do you think the problem is & do you think i should just have a histrectermy? Im worried if i put the miraina in it will cut me,& where im on blood thinners thats a problem. Thank you for your time. Christina Sline-Poore
Hello, Thanks for letting us know your health concern. You did not mention what happened to the pregnancy if you tested positive. I would also like to know if you had a hormone profile, your age and if you had a sonogram of the pelvis. The possible causes are hormone imbalances, use of anticoagulants and uterine masses/ovarian cysts. Mirena can be helpful with such heavy prolonged periods. However, since you are on anticoagulants, the procedure should be performed with care and follow up should be done to check for any traumatic bleeding that warrants removal. Hope this helps.
