Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have recently been diagnosed with Orthostatic Tremor. Both my legs tremor badly as does my left arm. I am unable to walk unaided and most times in a wheelchair or resting. Exercise appears to make my symptoms worse. I live near Sydney in Australia.
A condition which involves the unintentional rhythmic muscle movement of one or more parts of the body which usually happens when a person is standing upright is known as orthostatic tremor. There is no known treatment for orthostatic tremor but some prescribed medications can help to ease the symptoms. Benzodiazepines like clonazepam is the first line treatment of choice here. But some patients with orthostatic tremor may not respond to this first line drug treatment, they may respond favourably after being treated with an anticonvulsant drug known as Gabapentin. Other medications like primidone, chlordiazepoxide, pregabalin, pramipexole, phenobarbital and valproic acid can help to ease the symptoms of orthostatic tremor. But before starting any medication you should consult your doctor first.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
