Suggest Treatment For Obstruction In Bile Duct
my brother has some sort of obstruction in his bile duct. Jaundice, brown urine, back ache,started 3 wks ago. going to univ of chicago for endoscopy on weds. today his bilirubin is 16. He is so uncomfortable. Is that level dangerously high? Is he ok to wait til Weds?

Bilirubin level is high but is not dangerously high.
Most likely your brother is suffering form obstructive jaundice.
He is rightly suggested for endoscopic examination.Obstruction may be due to calculus,mass etc.
Calculus in common bile duct may be removed during endoscopy.
He may need surgery if there is mass etc.
He may need contrast CT of abdomen after evaluation.
Proper treatment depend upon findings.
