Suggest Treatment For Nasal Congestion When Diagnosed With Enlarged Adenoids

My kid gasps for air with mouth, some times while starting to talk. His nose too is stuffy but the lungs are clear. He s recently diagnosed with enlarged Adenoids and sinus cavities due to that. Been to ENT specialist and he prescribed a 3day antibiotics and asked to re visit after 10days. But, today I observe he is gasping a bit more. Please help me, if I have to check for anything. He is snoring when sleeping from the past 15 to 20days. Initially we met his pediatrician, and she told us to give him nebulizer, but later after a week she prescribed some medicine and told give him the medicine for 10days and then go for xray. On 6th day, we got the Xray and she suggested to meet the ENT

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,
Thanks for trusting Healthcaremagic!
I have gone through your query and I can understand your concerns.

The brief history you have described suggestive of enlarged adenoids. It is quite common in children and most of them shrink by the age of fifteen. If it causes significant problems it has to be removed by simple surgical procedure.

I suggest you to consult an ENT specialist and get the following things done:-
1.A detailed evaluation to confirm the diagnosis and to rule out associated tonsillitis.
2.A short course of antibiotic therapy for five to seven days may be needed.
3.Antihistamines and nasal decongestants for symptomatic relief.
4.Nebulization may be needed in case of respiratory distress.
If your son has recurrent attacks of infection or distress, surgery is the best possible treatment. If he can tolerate the symptoms we can wait for spontaneous regression.

Hope I have answered your query.
Wishing you good health.

Regards.
Dr.Shinas Hussain
